Star Anise (Illicium verum)

India is an emerging exporter of premium-quality star anise, a highly aromatic spice prized for its distinct licorice-like flavour and beautiful star-shaped pods. Grown primarily in the Northeastern states of India, Indian star anise is valued in international markets for culinary use, essential oil extraction, and traditional medicine.

Each star-shaped fruit contains 6–8 points, each housing a single shiny brown seed. It has a sweet, warm, and slightly peppery flavour, making it a key ingredient in spice blends, teas, baked goods, and savory dishes in Asian, Middle Eastern, and Western cuisines.
